Newman Safety Action Plan
The City of Newman is developing a Safety Action Plan (SAP) to serve as a roadmap to improve safety on the City’s roads. During its development, we will evaluate City roads and talk with the public to understand where safety issues occur and identify what can be done to make Newman’s roads safer.
Why is the Safety Action Plan important?
Traffic deaths and injuries are life-changing events and have been increasing in Newman and throughout California. From 2015-2024 one person was killed and 142 people were injured on Newman’s streets. The Safety Action Plan will focus on finding ways to increase safety and decrease the potential for these life-changing crashes.
What will the Safety Action Plan focus on?
- A comprehensive approach: it will consider changes to designs of critical streets, enforcement opportunities, policies, and programs to encourage safe driving, walking, and biking
- Project recommendations: the SAP will include specific infrastructure recommendations to create safer streets. We will prioritize these recommendations based on the project goals and community input
- Building community support: we will keep the Newman community involved throughout the process through surveys, mapping tools, and engagement events

The Safety Action Plan will feature three phases of community engagement.
The Draft Newman Road Safety Action Plan is Available!
The Draft Newman Road Safety Action Plan is now available for public review and comment! The City of Newman invites community members and stakeholders to review the draft plan and share feedback prior to finalization.
Comments are requested by the end of February 2026 and may be submitted by email to PublicWorksDepartment@cityofnewman.com.
