Newman City Council Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 938 Fresno Street. These meetings are physically open to the public and can also be viewed live via the City’s YouTube Channel Livestream. Currently, the vast majority of City Council Meetings are not conducted via video conferencing, but if a meeting is conducted via video conferencing, members of the Public will be able to participate in said meeting via the video conference and/or teleconference information posted at the top of the agenda.
Each meeting has “Items From The Public” included on the agenda. Matters under the jurisdiction of the Council, and not on the posted agenda, may be addressed by the general public at that time. However, California law prohibits the Council from taking action on any matter that is not on the posted agenda unless it is determined to be an emergency by the City Council. While the City Council welcomes and encourages participation in the meetings, it would be appreciated each speaker would limit their comments to 3 minutes so that everyone may be heard.
Any member of the audience desiring to address the Council on a matter on the agenda, should raise their hand or step to the podium at the time the item is announced by the Mayor. In order that all interested parties have an opportunity to speak, any person addressing the Council will be limited to a maximum of 3 minutes unless the Mayor grants a longer period of time.
